Developing your psychic abilities can be a lonely path. Lonely because developing a sensitivity to spirit is unique to the individual. Fortunes are made on how-to books that will tell you exactly how to do whatever it is you want to do. Your shelves are probably crammed with instructional books on finances, health and spirituality. But every author has their own take, based on their own experience. The result is that many of the self-help books on your shelves have been read and are now dust magnets, and you are only slightly, if any, closer to your goal. The aspiring psychic medium’s path is lonely because eventually you will have to work on your own talents and gifts, learn from your own experiences and grow at your own pace. This is not to say that the path is lonely, as in alone. Working in psychic development groups can be wildly fulfilling by connecting you to a community of people who share the same interests as you. There is nothing like a community to fire up your imagination as you learn from others. The loneliness of the path is that the work you are beginning will require you spend time alone with your processes, learning what works and what doesn’t… for you.
So many people read books authored by famous mediums such as John Edward, James Van Praag and Theresa Caputo. So much can be learned from these authors and so many more. But the essence of what they do is scattered throughout the pages of their works. To begin on a path and try to copy the techniques of any of these successful mediums is to doom yourself to failure. Find what works for you, find your particular gifts and find what makes your heart sing for joy. It may sound like a lot of work (and it can be at the beginning) but learning and growing can be a lot of fun.
Tips for Success
- Find a metaphysical or psychic development group that is convenient and affordable to attend.
- Devour as many books as you can on the subject. There are so many options for reading these books including the public library, or borrowing books from friends.
- Find a blog from a practitioner that you like. Keeping current on the subject matter will help to keep the fire of learning alive inside you.
- Let yourself off the hook. Once you begin to create a picture of what psychic abilities look like, use that image as a place to start rather than a final destination. Learning to communicate with the other side is not unlike any other skill you might learn. Allow yourself to grow and try out new things in the psychic world. Continual psychic growth will make this path exciting, and will make it easier to invite others along on the journey with you.
Have fun on this journey. Being a psychic medium is all about your connection to the great beyond and sharing what you know with others. By helping others along the path, you will find others willing to help you!
