If anything, they’re incredibly strong for being able to make it through constant worry. However, intervention is definitely necessary for making it more manageable. Here are four tips for handling anxiety like a pro.

Breathe

Anxiety can cause us to become incredibly worked up. As we let stress get the best of us, we find that it might be difficult to breathe properly. In order to reduce anxiety, we need to find the right way to bring oxygen to our brains. Take a moment right now to sit or stand up with your back straight. Inhale slowly through your nose and out your mouth; do this until you feel calmer. This can really help in situations such as before taking a test.

Don’t put things off

Procrastination is one of the most significant factors in stress. While it might feel good to put things off, it only serves to stress us out. If you’re feeling anxious, think about the smaller, less critical actions that you can accomplish. It could be throwing out the garbage, taking a cold shower, or returning a phone call.     Anxiety could be our bodies talking to us. Our physical body might be trying to release some old trauma. Our mental body might be trying to work something out. Our higher self might be trying to communicate with us through a guide or other spiritual being. Whatever is going on, it might be important to pay attention. Sitting with anxiety has been a very useful practice for many people. One might not have to literally “sit” to accomplish this practice. Some people find that gentle movement helps them access the information that need to be received. Others find that sitting still and gently allowing the anxiety to wash over them is the key to unlocking the seed of the anxiety. Many find that resistance is the least effective strategy for handling anxiety. Exploring your anxiety and finding the approach that works for you could be a helpful way to deal with anxiety.
